People’s Party president Mike Mulongoti says lawyers are excitedly waiting to get rich from defending corrupt PF officials when they are out of office.
Commenting on Henry Kapoko’s conviction in an interview with News Diggers! Mulongoti reminded those abusing public resources in government that they were very vulnerable.
“This is a wake-up call for all those who have abused pubic resources. It does not matter how long it takes, it will catch up. In fact, for the PF, their evidence is just on the surface and I am sure the lawyers are excited about the prospect of them making money with them because most of them will be in court and most of them are potential jail materials. So for now while they are in office, it appears that they are in control. But let them wait until they are out of office then they will realise how vulnerable they are. So what has happened is a wakeup call but I know that matter, many others were involved but it is just unfortunate that a few of them got nabbed,” Mulongoti said.
“So the PF’s writings are on the wall. I can tell you that most of them are potential jail materials and most of them cannot justify the wealth they have accumulated other than that they are looters, they are corrupt factors and they will have to answer one day. From their statements, it is evident that they are taking life for granted. There is nothing that they own, they are just servants of the people and when it comes to disciplining of a servant, they should know that punishment goes to a servant who shows arrogance. And the anger of the people comes in many ways. So for now they might think all is well. And the people are seeing extravagance, the arrogance. So for us it is just a matter of time. We have seen in the past; arrogant thieves and those arrogant thieves have ended up behind bars. So we are not worried about how long it takes but we sure they are going to end up behind bars.”
And Mulongoti said hiding resources outside the country was useless because it could easily be traced.
“You know in today’s world we are so interlinked that even if you steal money here and take it to the UK, the UK government can provide the evidence. And it doesn’t help you to think that you can leave Zambia after steal and the you get away with it. It doesn’t work like that especially if you are convicted here…so whatever movement of money, I can tell you is being monitored quietly by international communities. They will tell us, it is just a matter of making a request, they will tell us who has taken what there,” said Mulongoti.
