National Democratic Congress (NDC) president Chishimba Kambwili says the party’s decision to discontinue the case against the Registrar of Societies, challenging its de-registration, was due to some technicalities, which are being worked on.
And Kambwili has insisted that the Patriotic Front is trying to use former NDC secretary general Mwenya Musenge to destroy the opposition party but such attempts will not succeed.
In an interview, Kambwili assured NDC followers and members that the party had not abandoned the fight against it’s “illegal de-registration”.
“We have not abandoned the fight against the illegal de-registration of the party. That withdraw was on a technicality; there is one or two things that was left out in the pleading. So, we basically wanted to correct the pleading. Otherwise, we are just looking at the same technicalities in this case and then we shall be able to make a fresh appeal in the court,” Kambwili said.
And he insisted that PF was wasting its time by trying to destroy the NDC.
“We can’t appeal to the Minister (of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo); that information about de-registration came from the office of the Minister. The spokesperson of the Ministry speaks on behalf of the Minister so how can we appeal to someone who has already confirmed that ‘you have been de-registered’? You can’t because he has already made his judgement on the matter. So, we are not like Mwenya Musenge, and Mwenya Musenge is not NDC. Even if he talks about NDC matters, it’s from a joking point of view because if Mwenya Musenge is genuine, when the Registrar wrote to him, he should have said ‘no, I am no longer secretary general, I was removed; send the letter to the correct person’. But he got the letter and answered that ‘go ahead and de-register’, then the same person who said ‘go ahead and de-register’ cannot say ‘I am appealing’, can’t you see that, that’s a lot of nonsense? How do you appeal a decision that you accepted? So, this just shows you that the PF are trying to use Mwenya Musenge to destroy NDC. But bachepa sana, they will not manage and they are wasting their time,” said Kambwili.
