HOME Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu says government has commenced the process of reviewing the Public Order Act.
In an interview, Mwiimbu said his ministry would embark on a consultative process which would encompass all stakeholders.
“I want to state that the process of reviewing the Public Order Act has commenced. We will take the recommendations to Cabinet as per procedure for authority for us to proceed. Once authority is granted to us, as Ministry we shall embark on a consultative process which shall be all encompassing to ensure that all stakeholders are consulted. The Public Order Act is not for the government, the Public Order Act is a law that is supposed to be in place to ensure that the rights of citizens are protected. We shall consult widely. At an appropriate time after wider consultations, we shall publish the findings and with the stakeholders, we shall come up with an acceptable public order that shall stand the taste of time,” said Mwiimbu.
