GOVERNMENT has called on stakeholders to join hands in scaling up the fight against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender practices in the country. In a statement, Tuesday, chief government spokesperson Chushi Kasanda warned that anyone found in such acts of “gross indecency” was liable to prosecution in the Courts of Law. “Government wishes to reaffirm that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) practice is illegal in Zambia. The law is clear on this matter: Section 155 of the Penal Code criminalises sex between men; Section 156 of the Penal Code criminalises any attempt to commit ‘unnatural offences’ prohibited under section 155; Section 158 of the Penal Code criminalises acts of ‘gross indecency’ both between men and between women.
