DIRECTOR of Education International’s African Region, Dr Dennis Sinyolo, says Sub-Saharan Africa has the lowest percentage of qualified teachers, standing at 57 percent in pre-primary and 61 percent in secondary education. And Dr Sinyolo has lamented that teachers’ salaries have remained very low, noting that they receive less than US$625 monthly in 20 African countries, while in one country they even get as low as $8 per month.
