WESTERN Province Minister Kapelwa Mbangweta says the province’s low maize production over the years can partly be attributed to the low number of FISP beneficiaries in the province. Mbangweta says Western Province currently has 37,000 FISP beneficiaries, adding that the province had 27,000 beneficiaries before the UPND government increased the number. According to the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZAMSTATS), Central Province is projected to have the highest maize production of 680,085 metric tonnes this year, while Western Province is projected to have the lowest yield at 93,965.77 metric tonnes.
