THE Patriotic Front is protesting the refusal by Cabinet Office to authorize former president Edgar Lungu’s trip to South Africa for medical review. In a letter dated September 7, 2023, Deputy Secretary to Cabinet Dr Oliver Kalabo said Lungu’s request to travel had been turned down, but could not give any explanations for the decision. Reacting to this, former foreign affairs minister Joseph Malanji reminded the UPND government that it was Lungu’s constitutionally guaranteed privilege to travel abroad for medical attention. He further warned the ruling party leadership that they would be treated the same way when they leave power.
