Police in Chingola have arrested a 49-year-old businessman for allegedly defaming President Edgar Lungu.

Alex Mwale was picked up by police yesterday in connection with a video which went viral on social media last week in which he stood in front of one of the infamous fire tenders and called the Head of State a criminal.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed the arrest to News Diggers! in an interview today.

“Yes, we picked him up for the subject offense of Defamation of the President and he is in custody in Chingola. He will appear in court soon,” said Katanga.

“He was captured on a video clip defaming his Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu by calling him a criminal and a thief.”

In the video, Mwale said the fire tenders were not worth one million dollars.

“Lungu you are the one I am telling, is this where you can spend 9.5 million?” Mwale asked whilst pointing at the fire tender.

“A thief is a thief! Lungu you are a thief. This vehicle cannot cost 9.5 billion old currency. You are a criminal bring our money back.”
