The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Southern Province has arrested and charged an officer of the Zambia Police Service in Choma district with one count of corrupt practices involving K2,000 cash.

ACC Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono disclosed this a statement, Tuesday.

Moono explained that Evans Salumayi Masumba, a Police Officer of House Number B33, in Choma’s Chandamali area did corruptly solicit K2,000 from Pythias Sikabondo as an inducement to discontinue criminal investigations against him.

“Evans Salumayi Masumba aged 31 of House Number B33, Chandamali, in Choma has been charged with one count of corrupt practices by a Public Officer contrary to Section 19 sub section 1 of the Anti-Corruption Act number 3 of 2012 of the Laws of Zambia. Details are that on unknown dates but between 1st August, 2016 and 31st August, 2016, Evans Salumayi Masumba, being a public officer namely Officer in the Zambia Police Service jointly and whilst acting together with other unknown persons corruptly solicited K2000 from Pythias Sikabondo as a inducement to discontinue criminal investigations against the said Pythias Sikabondo, a matter or transaction concerning the Zambia Police Service, a Public Body. Masumba has since been released on Bond and will appear before the Choma Magistrate Court today 7th August, 2018,” stated Moono.
