A 22-year-old Lusaka man has been sentenced to one year imprisonment with hard labour for stealing two Bibles valued at K479.98 from Pick n Pay.
Lusaka magistrate Rachael Mwansa jailed Jeff Chiyoya of Lusaka’s Misisi compound upon his admission of guilt today.
Chiyoya said he stole the Bibles so that he could resell them.
He begged for leniency as he was a first offender.
According to facts read out by the prosecutor, Chiyoya was seen by Martin Kumwenda, a Pick n Pay employee, through CCTV putting the Bibles in his coat.
After alerting the security guard, Chiyoya apprehended 100 meters away from Pick n Pay.
The matter was reported to Embassy Police post in Chawama.
