In this audio, UPND vice-president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba says he knew the assault case against him would be discharged because he never committed any offense.
This morning, Kitwe magistrate Gilbert Maloto Phiri found GBM with no case to answer saying that the statement by the witnesses and complaints did not coordinate.
He also noted that the statements they gave at the police and the statements they gave in court were not the same.
In an interview with News Diggers! on the court outcome, GBM said the party was now looking forward to their leader Hakainde Hichilema’s release.
“There is nothing that I can say, I knew I would be acquitted, I never committed any offense and I know when you are dealing with a regime of people who are scared of their own shadows, this is the result. They unleash police on all the people with divergent views like ourselves. All I can say is that as a party, this has made us stronger and now we are looking forward to the release of our president. There is nothing that I can say, I don’t care about all these little chaps that they unleashed on me to come and frame charges against me. They have been ashamed and what can I do? Being a Christian, I will not even sue them for damages because I have no time for that,” said GBM.
Take a listen:
Just before the August 11 elections, GBM was charged with assault after allegedly slapping a street vendor and destroying property worth K500.
