A 24-year old bricklayer has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court on one count of vandalism of public property namely; three solar street lights valued at K21,000.
Particulars of the offence are that Marvin Mwende of Garden House, on June 28, 2018, jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown did vandalise three solar streetlights valued at K21,000 property of Limestone Limited.
And when the matter came up before Magistrate Nsunge Chanda, Monday, the accused could not take plea because the matter was triable by the High Court.
“You are coming for an explanation because the offence, which concerns public property is trialled by the High Court. The DPP will see if there is evidence for you to be committed to the High Court. You will take plea in the High Court; here you won’t plead,” Magistrate Chanda said.
The matter has since been adjourned to August 7, 2018, for mention, whilst waiting for instructions from the Director for Public Prosecutions (DPP).
