The State has entered a nolle prosequi in favour of one of the two juveniles accused of stabbing a colleague to death at JCS bar in Lusaka’s Longacres area.
Meanwhile, the other juvenile has been committed to the High Court for trial.
In this matter, the juveniles aged 17 and 16 were charged with one count of murder.
According to the police, the incident happened after the deceased of Mtendere East, allegedly picked a quarrel with his colleagues and in the process of fighting, was stabbed in the neck with a bottle and later died.
However, when the matter came up for mention before Lusaka Magistrate Ruth Kapulo, Monday, State prosecutor Noah Mwanza informed the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had entered a nolle prosequi in favour of the 16-year-old.
And after magistrate Kapulo discharged the 16-year-old, Mwanza told the court that the State had also received instructions from the DPP to have the other juvenile committed to the High Court for trial.
At this point, Magistrate Kapulo informed the juvenile that since instructions from the DPP to have him committed to the High Court were ready, she was committing him to the higher court to undergo trial.
She then committed the 17-year-old to the High Court.
