A 69-YEAR-OLD former police officer has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for allegedly threatening to shoot another man.

In this matter, Chendela Musonda, a farmer and lecturer of Kasama Road in Lusaka is facing a charge of threatening violence contrary to Section 90(a) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that on February 1, this year, Musonda threatened injury to Henry Chipolongu by saying ‘I’m going to kill you’ whilst pointing a gun at him.

However, when the matter came up for trial before Lusaka chief resident magistrate Lameck Mwale on Monday, the State said it was not ready to proceed with the case as witnesses were not before court and exhibits had not been brought from Chilenje Police.

Public prosecutor Aaron Tuntuluka also applied to recuse himself from handling the case.

He added that the prosecution team would ensure that other prosecutors handled the matter so that it did not delay.

“Another application is that we are trying to make arrangements for another person to come and prosecute this matter. The accused person was my director legal and the other PPs, accused was their commanding officer at Lusaka Police Division and we cannot handle this matter,” Tuntuluka said.

Magistrate Mwale then adjourned the matter to June 11 this year for possible trial.
