THE Lusaka High Court has upheld the two-year sentence that was slapped on former Minister of Community Development and Social Services Emerine Kabanshi by the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court in 2021. In May 2021, then Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate Lameck Mwale convicted and sentenced Kabanshi to two years simple imprisonment in a matter in which she was facing charges of wilful failure to comply with the law relating to procurement in the social cash transfer programme. Dissatisfied with the said judgement, Kabanshi appealed to the High Court against both her conviction and sentence and also applied for bail pending appeal.
