The Constitutional Court has ordered former president Edgar Lungu, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and the Attorney General to file in their answers to a petition by November 17, 2023 in a matter in which Lungu was dragged to court by a youth activist seeking a declaration that he is not eligible to contest any future Presidential elections. Michelo Chizombe, who also cited ECZ and the Attorney General as respondents, also wants the court to declare that Lungu’s participation in the August 2021 presidential elections was unconstitutional. The Constitutional Court had granted Chizombe leave to serve court documents on Lungu through newspaper advertisement on grounds that the latter had been elusive.
