THE Economic and Financial Crimes Court, High Court Division, has upheld the three-year jail term imposed on Wanziya Chirwa, the wife of former minister of home affairs, Stephen Kampyongo. Last year, Lusaka Magistrate Sylvia Munyinya convicted and sentenced Chirwa to three years simple imprisonment for being in possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime. However, the court acquitted Kampyongo, who was jointly charged with his wife, on corruption charges. Chirwa subsequently appealed the conviction and sentence in the High Court.
