Kennedy Katungu at the weekend won the Copperbelt table tennis Open tournament held at the Isubilo Community Research Centre in Ndola.
Katungu, of Sino-Zambia club, won the championship by outclassing Charles Mutambo in straight sets for a resounding 4-0 success in the final.
Mubanga Kunda took the women title while Innocent Bwalya won the boys junior category.
Enroute to the final, Katungu romped to another 4-0 win dispatching national teammate Warren Muke from the host club Isubilo.
Mutambo got to the final with his own straight sets victory over Sino-Zambia’s Isaac Banda.
In the women category, Kunda was made to sweat by Latifah Nalavwe but still prevailed 4-2 after an exciting six setter.
Kunda stormed the final with an easy 4-0 win over Green Buffaloes’ Betty Mutowe while Nalavwe saw off Janet Mwelwa, also of Buffaloes 4-1.
Zambia Table Tennis Association (ZTTA) interim treasurer Alick Tembo who is also Copperbelt Table Tennis Association chairperson said the talent showcased at the event was a revival of the sport in the region.
