A GRZ vehicle carrying grade nine examination papers from Zambezi east DEBs to Zambezi West Bank schools was yesterday submerged in the river.
Meanwhile, police in Solwezi have arrested a middle aged man for murdering another man he found having sex with his wife.
In a statement yesterday, North Western province police Commissioner Auxensio Daka stated that the incident happened around 15:00 hours when a driver, Lambani Mukuma, overshoot at the pontoon.
“Therefore the exam papers has been retrieved from the and taken back to the DEBS office strong room. This occurred on 25.09.17 at around 15:00hrs at pontoon when the driver over shoot. No casualty and Motor Vehicle recovered. However, local people managed to retrieve the papers using canoes while the vehicle was eventually pulled out of the water with the aid of Zambia National Service and the local people,” Daka stated.
Meanwhile police in Sowezi have detained a man identified as Michael Chewe for allegedly murdering another man identified as Gershom Kayombo whom he found in a sexual act with his wife yesterday around 04:00 hours.
Daka stated that Chewe of Zambia compound in Solwezi found the suspect at his house in a sexual act with his wife and later hit him on the back of the head using the handle of an axe.
“Michael Chewe of unknown house number in Zambia compound brought a suspect for criminal trespass whom he found at his house in a sexual act with his wife in Zambia Compound. Mr Chewe hit the suspect on the back of the head with axe handle. He later brought him to the police and immediately they rushed the suspect to Solwezi hospital. Unfortunately around 05:45 the suspect died. Now Mr Chewe has since been detained for the offense of murder and a docket of case has been opened and an arrest was made. Body was deposited at Solwezi hosp pending postmortem,” Daka stated.
In another development, a combined team of Forestry and security officers yesterday impounded nine trucks which were loaded with Mukula logs in Kasempa district, through a tip off from members of the public.
Daka stated that three of the trucks were taken to the police station while two others developed faults on the way to Kasempa, and that four drivers ran away and abandoned their trucks in the bush.
And police in Mwinilunga district yesterday intercepted and impounded a truck carrying Mukula logs.
Daka said the freight line truck registration number AJC 8826 and AAJ 9599T which was being driven by Patrick Mona aged 40 of Liteta area in Llusoke village, Chief Nkhomesha of Chongwe district was loaded with 130 logs of suspected Mukula tree.
He disclosed that the Mukula tree was believed to be belonging to Mercy Mutumba aged 26 years of Kabeka village in chief Namutwi of Mongu district who is married to a Chinese national and that the truck was heading to Angola through Kamapanda border post
