POLICE in Lusaka have arrested UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s presidential assistant for special duties Mubita Nawa for the offence of defamation of the President.
In a viral video, Nawa was seen recording a video with a man who was believed to be intoxicated saying expletives against President Edgar Lungu.
And in a statement, Monday, deputy Police public relations officer Danny Mwale said Nawa was currently in police custody.
He added that EPP leader Chilufya Tayali was also awaiting court appearance for defaming President Lungu.
“Police in Lusaka have arrested Mubita Christopher Nawa aged 45 of Lusaka West for the offence of defamation of the President contrary to Section 69 of the Penal Code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia. This is in line with the video which was posted on social media platforms recently. He is currently detained in police custody. And Chilufya Tayali is still in police custody awaiting court appearance,” stated Mwale.
