PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema yesterday shunned the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance and Reconciliation, opting instead to spend some private time in Namwala. On Monday, chief government spokesperson Chushi Kasanda announced that President Hichilema would lead members of the public in prayer at Lusaka’s Show Grounds on October 18 but it was Vice-President Mutale Nalumango who turned up to officiate. Asked why President Hichilema had stayed away from this event for a second time since assuming office, his spokesperson Anthony Bwalya said contrary to Kasanda’s announcement, the Head of State had not confirmed that he would be at Show Grounds.
