FORMER secretary to the Cabinet Leslie Mbula says Zambians cannot be said to be enjoying freedom if the country has not attained economic freedom. In an interview ahead of Africa Freedom Day, Mbula said poverty was all over because of some leaders’ selfishness. “Poverty is all over. In fact, it is because of the selfishness of some of the leaders we’ve had in the past and present. That selfishness will never help us to get out of poverty. So as long as there’s that selfishness, there’ll never be economic freedom. My appeal, therefore, is to let the leadership, political and otherwise, focus on developing the poor person in Africa and in Zambia, particularly liberated to have economic freedom. How do...
