SOCIALIST Party leader Dr Fred M’membe says the police service is not a good tool to use to control politics or to get a favourable political outcome. Last Friday, Police in Lusaka arrested Socialist Party national youth secretary Gabriel Banda for allegedly instigating riots and looting at the University of Zambia. And speaking shortly after visiting Banda who is detained at Kanakantapa Rural Police Post in Chongwe District, Dr M’membe said whenever the police had been used as political tools by governments, the outcome had been disastrous. “It is difficult to understand why the young comrade was brought here all the way from Lusaka. The alleged offence or crime [occured] in Lusaka district, it was not committed in Chongwe district....
