THE Afrobarometer, a pan-African, non-partisan survey has revealed that China’s perceived influence on Zambia’s economy has declined over the past eight years. Survey findings further show that since the UPND government came into power two years ago, presidential references to China as an important friend have declined as well as a number of prominent Chinese-supported ventures or developments. According to an Afrobarometer dispatch, compiled by Institute of Economic and Social Research (INESOR) research fellow Edward Chibwili, a sample of 1,200 Zambian adults were interviewed between August 3 and September 7, 2022 to understand China’s influence on Zambia.
