ENERGY Minister Makozo Chikote has disclosed that the country’s petroleum debt stood at US$735,819,423.26 as of December 31, 2024. Speaking in the National Assembly, Wednesday, Chikote said the debt was no longer growing as government had negotiated for capping of interest last year. He was responding to Lunte PF MP Mutotwe Kafwaya, who asked how much debt government had accumulated for the procurement of fuel as of July 2021, and how much the debt had accumulated to as of June 2024. “The outstanding petroleum debt as at 31st July 2021 stood at $447, 798, 993.110, comprised of the principal amount of $280, 149, 213.47 and late payment of interest of $197,649,779.63.
