PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has established an inter-ministerial committee, chaired by Vice-President Mutale Nalumnago, to address illegal mining and a recent pollution incident on the Copperbelt. The committee, which is made up of ministers and technical experts, was formed in response to recent riots and looting in Chingola. The incident began after small-scale illegal miners, commonly known as jerabos, were ordered to vacate the Senseli Open Pit mine, leading to the arrest of 79 people.
