DURING his meeting with media owners on Friday last week, President Hakainde Hichilema spent some time expressing his concerns around lack of professionalism in the media. The President said sometimes when he watches TV, he sees ignorance being disseminated to an extent that an interviewee doesn’t even know how to respond to misguided questions. He said sometimes when he reads newspapers, he sees falsehoods and misinformation being spread with adamancy. The President attributed this to lack of specialized skills training among journalists. President Hichilema said he wondered why the media peddled a negative narrative around the Kwacha and Kabushi by-election, yet the guidance was coming from the courts of law.
