THE Lusaka High Court has expunged from its record, a police officer’s testimony that gassing suspects Given Phiri and Marlone Banda told him during interrogations that they got chemicals from Chris Zumani Zimba. Lusaka High Court Judge Koreen Zimba ruled that if the warn and caution statement was given freely, it would have been written and signed by the accused to approve the contents, unlike a verbal one. On Monday, a police officer, Kenneth Nkhuwa, testified that after interrogating Banda and Phiri, he learnt that the suspected chemicals found on them were allegedly acquired from Zimba, who was allegedly acting with another suspect Portipher Gwai.
