A YOUTH activist has dragged former president Edgar Lungu to the Constitutional Court seeking a declaration that he is not eligible to contest any future Presidential elections. Michelo Chizombe, who has also cited the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and the Attorney General as respondents, also wants the court to declare that Lungu’s participation in the August 2021 presidential elections was unconstitutional. He further wants a declaration that ECZ’s inclusion of Lungu on the 2021 Presidential ballot was unconstitutional and that he is not eligible to contest the presidential election under the current Constitution as read with the now-repealed 1991 constitution (as amended), among other reliefs.
