ZAMALEK FC has reported 2012 AFCON golden boot winner Emmanuel Mayuka to FIFA for being AWOL in the last three weeks.
Mayuka, who has been on holiday, was expected back in Egypt after the festive season to help his club as they prepare for the CAF champions league and Egyptian Premier League which resumes next month.
However, according to an official statement on the club website today January 23, 2017, the striker reported to the Zamalek training camp last night and held talks with club officials.
“Zambian striker Emmanuel Mayuka has returned to Cairo since shortly after his absence for three weeks in the country and the failure to return after the holiday obtained,” read the statement.
The club stated that Mayuka met his teammates on arrival and informed them that he would continue training and playing with them.
But speaking at a press conference during the launch of a new Zamalek TV channel yesterday, Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour took a swipe at Mayuka for his behavior.
Mansour expressed his disappointment in Mayuka stressing that he had no choice but to report the former South Hampton striker to the Egyptian Football Association and FIFA.
He added that he would see to it that Mayuka paid dearly for his deeds as his conduct was unwarranted.
