ZAMBIA Amateur Athletic Association is set to host 2017 National Cross Country in Kabwe at the Golf Club this Saturday, January 28.
In a statement issued today January 25, 2017, ZAAA marketing and communications officer Stella Omara stated that the tournament would be used to select a provisional team to represent Zambia at the World Cross Country to be held in Kampala-Uganda on March 26, 2017.
“The tournament will also mark the beginning of the ZAAA 2017 activity calendar. It will be held in accordance with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) revised Cross Country standards,” Omara stated.
She also explained that there were a lot of categories lined up for athletes.
“The activities include senior men and women who will participate in the 10km. The junior men will participate in the 8km, while the junior women will participate in the 6km,” Omara stated.
“The other highlight will be a Mixed Relay. This is something new that will be implemented for the first time at the World Cross Country Championships.”
The Tournament is expected to have not less than 200 entries.
