GOVERNMENT has awarded lightweight boxer Patrick Chinyemba with a sum of $,5000 for winning a gold medal at the just-ended 2024 Paris Africa Qualifying boxing tournament in Dakar, Senegal. Chinyemba knocked out Tunisian boxer Eddine Zidie in the third round to win the only gold medal for Zambia and Southern Africa at the tournament that was dominated by North Africans who won six of the seven gold medals on offer. Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu revealed that Chinyemba would receive a sum of $5000 for winning gold and qualifying for the Olympic Games.
