In this audio, President Edgar Lungu asks Zambians to forgive him if he made a mistake to declare October 18 a National Day of Prayer because he did not know what he was doing.

Speaking when he arrived at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola yesterday, President Lungu said people should take advantage of the day to seek God’s face even though it was declared by a politician.

“Tomorrow is a very important day on our calendar and take it seriously and understand the cause why tomorrow is a holiday. Seek the face of God and forgiveness. Yes, the day was declared by a politician but we dedicated it to God. If it was a mistake for me to declare October 18 [a national day of prayer], then forgive me. I was just used by God, I did not know what I was doing,” President Lungu said.

He claimed it was not a political day.

“Don’t worry about what I did when I declared the day. I am saying this because tomorrow is not a political day but to seek the face of God. I am saying this because I have a heavy heart. Some people are saying let us not politicize the day, but politicians should take advantage of the day and go and pray to change their lives. If you are UPND, FDD, UNIP, PF, you are NDC, whatever political party, you are welcome,” President Lungu said.

He said the day was not about him but the all powerful God who put him in his position.

“You are not coming to Edgar Lungu but to God. Let me make it clear, you are not joining Edgar Lungu but the body of God. When we pray, God will bring wonders in our lives, because it is the will of God. It is not about me, it is not about State House, it is about the all powerful God. So just come if you are not PF, if you are not UPND, not MMD, come for prayers because God is powerful, he is the one who put me here. So I ask everyone, you PF friends, come and you will see what God will do. Don’t listen to those who are doubting God. Don’t doubt God and don’t mock God,” said President Lungu.
