The Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested and charged Roan PF member of parliament Chishimba Kambwili’s son Mwamba with two counts of being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime involving K630,000.
But Kambwili says President Edgar Lungu must leave his family out of their fight.
Kambwili was speaking to journalists at Woodlands Police station in Lusaka, Wednesday, after the Anti-Corruption Commission released Mwamba on bond.
Mwamba arrived around 09:30 hours in the company of his father and his lawyers and he was led to an interrogation room.
Two hours later, his lawyers informed journalists that he had been charged with being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.
After meeting bond conditions around 14:40, Mwamba avoided journalists and went straight to the car.
His father, however, asked President Lungu to leave his family out of their fight.
“When you send your son with money and say ‘go to the bank and deposit it in my account’ it becomes a crime. But I know that this is political persecution and trying to intimidate me but I cannot be intimidated. the only thing I can appeal to Lungu is leave my family out of this. Let you Lungu and me fight but leave my children out of it because you have also got children. I am ready for you but please leave my family out of this because this is a lot of nonsense. How do I send my own son to deposit money in my account and it becomes an offense? I think we are getting out of hand. some people need to be taken to Chainama and be checked properly because this is getting out hand,” said Kambwili.
And in a statement, ACC public relations manager Timothy Moono announced that in count one, it was alleged that Mwamba deposited K450,000 into his father’s account on July 22, 2016 and in count two, it was alleged that he deposited K180,000 into the same account.
