President Edgar Lungu has congratulated newly elected President of the United States of America Joseph Biden.

But most of his Facebook followers have advised him to prepare for exit next year.

In a statement issued by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Isaac Chipampe, President Lungu stated that he looked forward to closely working with President Biden in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

“His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia has congratulated the President elect of the United States of America, Mr Joseph Biden following his election to become the 46th President of the United States of America. In his congratulatory message to President elect Biden, President Lungu says’ on behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Zambia as well as on my own behalf, I wish to convey our heartfelt congratulations on your election as President of the United States of America’. The President describes Mr Biden election as a demonstration of the American people’s confidence in his ability to foster unity and increase socio economic development among other aspects outlined in his restoration plan,” stated Chipampe.

“President Lungu acknowledges that Zambia and the United States of America enjoy strong relations that are based on mutual respect and benefit for the peoples Zambia and the United States of America. The President adds that the United States remains one of Zambia’s strategic partners that over years, has rendered invaluable support to economic development and welfare through various initiatives and projects under the Presidential Emergency Plan for AIDS relief (PEPFAR), Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) among other areas. While I look to working closely with your Excellence in the future strengthening of our bilateral relations, Please accept my best wishes for your personal good health as well as success in discharging the functions of your office.”

But after he posted the congratulatory message on his Facebook page, Saturday, some of his followers predicted that he would be voted out in 2021.

James Mbuzi wrote: “Most certainly your excellency Joe deserves our highest congratulations. As for us here, I can certainly predict what will happen in next year’s elections simply because what happens here as well.”

Dotten Sopie Mukes Mammy wrote: “Our Voter’s cards are doing press ups in preparation for next year.”

Another follower, Mukela Mathews Siyanga, wrote: “The way Trump lost that is how you will lose next year congratulations to Jeo Biden and Kamala.”

Stefan Jr wrote: “The opposition is coming next year.”

Whiteny Bright wrote: “Start reading about how to cope with defeat, it will help you next year.”

Another follower, Lemont K Nyovester, said he wanted the same thing to happen to Zambia.

“We want the same thing here in Zambia next year. We thank the Americans,” wrote Nyovester.

Rueben Mr Jay Kabwenga wrote: “Even you sir next year you still be the President of this great nation, but P will be silent.”
