PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has pardoned 815 inmates and has commuted sentences for 17 inmates to commemorate the 59th Independence Anniversary. Speaking during a press briefing, Monday, Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu said out of those pardoned and commuted, 744 were ordinary inmates, one was a foreign national and 45 were women with circumstantial children among others. “To commemorate the 59th Independence Anniversary, the President of the Republic of Zambia and Commander in Chief of the Defence Force, Mr Hakainde Hichilema has exercised his prerogative of mercy on 832 to commemorate Zambia’s 59th Independence anniversary [on] 24th October, 2023.
