NORTHERN Province Permanent Secretary Bernard Mpundu yesterday apologised to the Public Accounts Committee for failing to recover over K1 million loans which were given to youths based on political affiliation. Mpundu said because the Ministry did not follow the outlined procedure of giving out the loans, they were unable to trace the beneficiaries and recover the money. The Auditor General’s Report revealed that loans in amounts totalling K1,683,771 were issued to 92 youth groups in the province. However, as at 30th June, 2023, the recoveries on the loaned amounts had not been effected in spite of the grace period elapsing.
