THE Lusaka High Court has urged the state to consider converting one or more properties forfeited to the state for being proceeds of crime into accommodation facilities for inmates to help decongest prisons. High Court Judge Geoffrey Mulenga made the appeal during the opening of a criminal session in Lusaka yesterday after he was informed about congestion in correctional facilities in Lusaka. Deputy Officer-in-Charge at Lusaka Central Correctional Facility Superintendent Aaron Mwanza informed Justice Mulenga that as of Monday at 06:00 hours, Lusaka Central Correctional Facility had 1,452 inmates, Kamwala Remand Facility 340 inmates, Mwembeshi Farms Correctional 387 inmates and Mwembeshi Maximum Facility 1,134 inmates.
