THE revelation by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Commissioner General, Dingani Banda, at the 2024 EAZ National Economic Summit is alarming. The fact that only 0.1 per cent of active taxpayers are responsible for more than 80 per cent of the country’s revenue collection is not only shocking but also fundamentally unfair. This is a sobering reminder of the significant inequities in the country’s tax compliance landscape. We are also told that this situation is worse under the mining sector where only six out of over 6,000 licensed entities contribute to the nation’s revenue.
