DIRECTOR of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri has denied Socialist Party leader Dr Fred M’membe permission to conduct prosecution against Inspector General of Police Graphael Musamba for alleged defamation of character. Phiri has denied Dr M’membe permission “due to public interest considerations”. Musamba yesterday appeared before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court in a matter in which Dr M’membe has lodged a complaint against him for defamation of character. Dr M’membe’s complaint is in relation to Musamba’s recent press briefing in which he said the Socialist Party leader’s statements on various social media platforms were inciting peace-loving Zambians into a civil disobedience.
