A MINING firm has dragged the state to the High Court, seeking an order of mandamus directing the Director of the Mining Cadastre to arrange for arbitration within 14 days from the date of the order. In the alternative, Kashime Copper Limited wants an order of mandamus directing the Director of Forestry to grant it consent to access North Swaka Forest Reserve, P46, and commence their in-fill drilling in the forest. The mining firm also wants a declaration and an order that it is entitled to enter the forest and conduct in-fill drilling, having duly complied with the provisions of the law. Kashime Copper Limited further wants exemplary damages to serve as a deterrent against blatant disregard of the law....
