THE Lusaka High Court has set aside the six-month sentence that was imposed on social media blogger Simon Mwewa for maliciously damaging property. High Court Judge Ian Mabbolobbolo has instead fined Mwewa K6,000 for the offence. Justice Mabbolobbolo says Mwewa’s custodial sentence was excessive and a departure from the principles of sentencing. In January, Lusaka Magistrate Fines Mayambu convicted and sentenced Mwewa to six months imprisonment for the offence of malicious damage to property. Mwewa was accused of damaging two motor vehicle tyres, both valued at K4,600, belonging Benjamin Talamuka.
