THE Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has denied bail to a 40-year-old man accused of defiling his 10-year-old daughter and infecting her with HIV. Steven Phiri is charged with one count of incest, contrary to Section 159(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia. When the matter came up for hearing before Magistrate Kawama Mwamfuli on Wednesday, the defence team renewed their earlier application for bail, initially filed on 30 June 2025, arguing that Phiri had been in custody for more than 119 days. “We made an application for bail on 30 June, 2025.
