The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Kasama has arrested a former teacher at Ntindi Primary School in Nakonde for corrupt practices involving over K184,000.
ACC spokesperson, Timothy Moono, stated that the suspect identified as Catherine Nakamba, aged 29, of Mukoma village in Nakonde has been charged with one count of uttering a false document and another count of obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretences, contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Moono alleged that the suspect on dates unknown but between 1st January, 2012 and 31st January, 2013, in her capacity as a teacher did knowingly and fraudulently utter a false primary teacher’s certificate no. 14288 to the District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) purporting that the document was genuine when in fact not.
“Particulars of the offence in the count of uttering a false document are that, Catherine Nakamba on dates unknown but between 1st January, 2012, and 31st January, 2013, in Nakonde District, Muchinga Province of the Republic of Zambia, being a teacher employed in the Ministry of Education, did knowingly and fraudulently utter a false document namely a primary teacher’s certificate no. 14288 to the District Education Board Secretary purporting that the said document was genuine when in fact not,” Moono stated in a press release issued in Lusaka yesterday.
“Particulars in the count of obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretences are that Catherine Nakamba on dates unknown but between 1st January, 2012, and 31st January, 2017, in Nakonde District, Muchinga Province of the Republic of Zambia, being a teacher at Ntindi Primary School did dishonestly and with false pretences purport to have a primary teacher’s certificate in order to be employed as a teacher by the District Education Board Secretary under the Ministry of Education and was so employed, by virtue of which she obtained a pecuniary advantage in form of salaries amounting to K 184,084.70 after tax,” stated Moono.
And Moono revealed that the suspect had been released on bond and would appear in court on June 29, 2018.
