A 47-year-old Chiwempala man in Chingola has committed suicide after beating his wife to death.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga has confirmed the death of Gertrude Mpundu, 38, of Nalumango Road in Chiwempala Township.

Katanga said Mpundu, a house wife, was beaten to death after a marital dispute with her husband, Lacabu Simukoko, who was a businessman.

She said Simukoko soon after killing his wife, fled and went to commit suicide by diving in front of an oncoming vehicle.

“Ms Mpundu had sustained multiple cuts on shoulder, neck, head, back and also a suspected fractured right arm. Simukoko had run away from the scene of crime to unknown destination unfortunately he was also found dead along Chingola -Chililabombwe road near Kazenene work shop after being hit by unknown motor vehicle and died instantly,” said Katanga, Tuesday.

“Police have picked up the two bodies and were taken to Nchanga North General Hospital mortuary awaiting post-morte.”
