MINEWORKERS Union of Zambia (MUZ) president Joseph Chewe has urged Lumwana Mining Company to be fair and transparent in the way it deals with the water contamination issue and dismissal of one of its employees. Lumwana Mining Company fired an employee who is a trade union leader, after he demanded that workers who consumed the uranium contaminated water be medically examined and compensated. The mining company has been battling to contain uranium contamination of drinking water at its facility in North Western Province. Lumwana issued a memo on Monday this week stating that Management had changed the source of water supply which was safe for drinking.
