MR Anthony Mukanda, the General Secretary for the Secondary Schools Teachers Union of Zambia (SESTUZ), recently called for the suspension of the General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations until a well-structured mechanism is put in place. Mr Mukanda says the GCE regime is largely responsible for the collapse of the education system in Zambia. Among his concerns, the SESTUZ General Secretary cited corruption, insisting that there is a lot of cheating involved in GCE examinations, with many who acquire their grade 12 certificates through this system continuing with the vice in colleges, ending up as half-baked professionals in whatever careers they pursue.
