WE agree with United States Ambassador, His Excellency Michael Gonzales, that endemic corruption remains one of the greatest impediments to Zambia’s economic development. In fact, it would be intellectually dishonest to discuss Zambia’s stunted economic potential without highlighting how corruption has choked our growth and diverted vital resources meant for national development into the pockets of a few powerful individuals. During his courtesy call on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director-General, Ambassador Gonzales did not mince his words. He stated clearly that Zambia cannot achieve its full economic potential unless it dismantles the entrenched networks of corruption that continue to thrive in public institutions.
