Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale says he is disappointed with Southern Province members of parliament because they are not working.
Speaking when he featured on ZNBC ‘s Government Forum, Hamukale said most of the MPs were being overshadowed by Councillors.
“My disappointment is really, I would say with some of my fellow Members of Parliament who never go to visit the people. They don’t want to work. They don’t want to work with government. But I am extremely happy with the mayors and councillors. I can assure you at the rate we are going, most of the MPs in Southern province will be replaced by councillors and mayors because mayors are working,” Hamukale said.
He said it is time for people of Southern Province to begin to take to task MPs who had gone on holiday, waiting for campaign time.
“So time is now upon the people of Southern Province to begin to take to task MPs who have gone on holiday and they only re-apear during elections. Some MPs don’t even know the number of schools and clinics in their constituencies,” he observed.
And Hamukale said generally, the ordinary people of Southern Province were peaceful and law abiding.
“The ordinary people of Southern province are very peaceful. Just few individuals that want to create some imaginary tension by burning markets and target certain key and sensitive strategic institution infrastructure by way of frustrating government. With article 31 that was debated and agreed upon in Parliament that it should come into effect, there is total peace in Southern Province and we have had that peace,” said Dr Hamukale.

Dr Hamukale is dead on. Majority of the Mps in southern province have taken the electorates for a ride. I traverse the province once in a while for funerals, ceremonies and other things and can attest that from Magoye up to Kalomo, all these constituencies are dead backward. Mazabuka is ticking, Siavonga is also ticking. Magoye is dead backward. Monze central is just total confusion. What those Mps are doing is ride on the name of the party and it’s president but put service delivery into the trash bin. Very disheartening. Roads which only require grading and re graveling are so impassable one wonders whether we are in the stone age. Water an essential commodity is difficult to get. One has to travel miles on end to fetch this essential ingredient to life. Schools are so dilapidated one wonders why these leaders are elected if they can’t prioritise education. Agricultural activities are diminishing by the year. Today the Tonga man has been turned from maize grower to charcoal burner. This is not correct to any well meaning Zambian. What have these law makers done? Absolutely nothing. All they are concerned about is to take development to their home villages and those that fall in the shadows of those villages. What is happening in southern province is very sickening. I wonder if the UPND have a research and monitoring unit which should follow up on what these Mps are doing in the constituencies. While these Mps are sleeping and taking care of their bellies, the PF government should take advantage and take the service delivery to the masses on the ground. Masses will appreciate the initiative. Dr Hamukale should continue to work with progressive minds that are people centred not these egoistic Mps. Lastly may I say all these Mps except for Garry need a boot out. They are a thorough let down.
