GRAIN Traders Association of Zambia Spokesperson Yotam Mkandawire says his members are actively participating in maize buying but the flow of the commodity onto the market is very slow. In an interview, Tuesday, Mkandawire said that the 1.3 million metric tonnes maize deficit that the country had recorded was real. “The deficit is real. We should have proactive measures to cover the deficit but the way it is we haven’t been proactive so there will come a time when this deficit will hit us so much. We are aggressively participating, we have moved to Northern, we have also moved to Muchinga where we are mobilising whatever is there. So, we have been active, we have been aggressive even in Lusaka....
